IGF China Sponsors Game Jam

IGF China is a proud sponsor of the Beijing and Shanghai Game Jam. As with similar game jams hosted around the world, participants built video games from scratch, using hardware and other development materials they provide themselves. They also have the option of creating non-digital projects like board or card games. In the spirit of fostering local game development for independent developers and future game developers, IGF China offered prizes of complimentary passes to Game Jam winners to attend GDC China 2011.

The game jam took place on July 22 in Shanghai, where attendees checked in and began their in creating games within a 48 hr time period before being unveiled and judged. Please see below for winners from both the Beijing and Shanghai Game Jams.

Pac-Resistance is a story occurs in a far future. Highly developed technology has turned the world into a dystopia. In a completely cyberlized society, centralized government controlled almost everything. However, oppression always exist with resistance. As a member of the largest resistance group, your mission is simple. Keep yourself alive by avoiding patrolling polices. And destroy as many dictators’ facility as possible.

Utopia is a horizontal platform adventure game. The level design is based on Wisława Szymborska’s poem. In the game, you aroused in a deserted Utopia island. You need to follow the path suggested by steles. The basic movement is go forward and jumps. You can use arrow keys to move, space to jump, z key to interact with environments and r key to retry current stage. Every scene has two opposite sides: the one is logical, rational utopia, and the other one is an abandoned island. It has two metaphoric meanings --- first, the Dystopia in original poem. The second is the melancholy of the effete civilizations and retrospection for the decayed glory. Like the feeling when we read the Shakespeare’s sonnet: “Bare ruin's choirs; where late the sweet birds sang.”

	Defense of the Utopia GameMaster Studio (China) Windows PC http://www.gamemastercn.com/archives/187 *Defense of the Utopia* is a tower-defense game. You are the god in the game and should lead the human to protect Utopia from being attacked by the red devil. In game, you can lead the human to build fortifications to protect your buildings. The devil’s attack will fly down to the ground. The wall’s block can defend other buildings, church can collect faith (money), tower can shoot the enemy and even with fire after upgrade. The butcher can throw a knife which can run through enemies. And the turret can shoot the shackles and you should use your mouse to drag the shackles to make the enemy impact with wall or ground. All the buildings cost faith when you build it. And the same time, you can use god’s power to attack the devil. This is a simple game and we just want it can let players happy when they play this game.
	Utopia of Robot Team: soft robot (China) Flash http://megaswf.com/serve/1152777 *Utopia of Robot* is an action game. Robot A wants to find his own Utopia, becoming a real people after collecting all the parts of heart. You can control the robot A to move and jump with the branches, and collect all the parts. This is a big challenge. It is probably that you cannot finish the task, isn’t it?
	YOU or GOD ADG Studio (China) Windows PC / MAC http://www.gamejamchina.com/2011/07/27/you-or-god/#more-30 *You or God* somebody said god chose us, and somebody said we chose ourselves. This game looks like a simple ACT game, the mission is only to jump and pass the five moving cloud, but the problem is the clouds maybe broken, you can firm up the clouds, unfortunately. If you do this, the clouds move faster. You must make a choice with the points you have, trust yourself or trust god. What’s your choice? It’s your turn now. Trust me this is a game about Strategy.

The leader lead us to the overthrow of the old empire, an ideal republic we had dreamt of was established, which is held firmly by us and growing strong and sturdy.I am the speaker of the Highest Congress of Republic. I am in charge of execution of every decision our leader have made. But what I have just discovered is that the inflation of power has made the leader lost his way, numbers of decisions were made in recklessness. It is my obligation to stop him from destroying this nation.The congress adopts the system of majority rule. I must control the submission of every bill, preventing the bills from being excessively off the point that extremely unmanageable situations come into being. The member of congress also may not veto too much of the leader's decisions. I will cozy up to a member of congress if only the bills he is interested in are approved three times successively. He will then endorse any bill I have laid. When I have cozied up to all the members of congress, I will be able to stop those wrong decisions.Of course, there are a few die-hards among the nine members of congress, who will only endorse either rational bills or emotional ones.

Bud is a short pace game, when the seed controlled by player sprouts, grows slowly and converts into new lives by digesting the remainders from war, industry development and death, the player will enjoy the procedure of from weakness to powerfulness, from loneliness to prosperity and gaining new lives after passing different levels. And how to make the vitality better is totally controlled by the player and that’s the gameplay of “Bud”. Let the player obtain emotional touch through the whole gameplay.

Yon control a dead devil that must firstly absorb energy from the guards and avoid being detected by them otherwise will be attacked. After intaking enough energy you can turn yourself into “devil king” mode and kill the villagers. Once you killed 666 people you will resurrect.
	Rebuild Team Members Designer: Lu Zhang Programmer: Xiang Wang, Wei Li Artist: Wenyue Zhou Windows PC *Rebuild* is a game about exploring maze and getting back body parts to resurrect. Whatever body part you find you have to accept it and the game will give an evaluation to your new figure after your resurrection.
	Holy Cross Team Members Designer: Wesley Bao Programmer: Jiabin He Artist: Xellos Cai Windows PC *Holy Cross* You’re Ares and just entered a battlefield in ancient age. The battle is in a stalemate and the knights fight head to head against undead zombies. The player has powerful resurrection ability which can bring dead units back to life(it works both for knights and zombies) The goal of the player is to rescue the knights continuously and avoid resurrecting the zombies. You must be quick otherwise the dead knights will turn to zombies and that’ll be a holy mess. So hurry up and pick up the cross, fight!

	SoulBall Team Members Designer: Yue Shen Programmer: Mo Shen Artist: Lurong Chen Windows PC http://t.cn/ajF9A3?u=1852615314 *Soulball* is an arcade prototype. The player must fire soulballs to resurrect Mr. Devil. The soulballs can be combined with each other to form bigger and more powerful balls. Player can also control the size and launch direction of the soulballs by charging or dragging control. In the gameplay process, the player shall keep the soulballs away from the moving crosses. The goal of the game is to fire as few soulballs as possible to revive Mr. Devil.
	It's Alive Team Members Designer: Florian Garcia Programmer: Henrik Flink Artist: Chen Zou *It’s Alive* is a turn based multiplayer game for the iPad. It inspires itself from the classic movie Frankenstein published by Universal Pictures in 1931. Our doctor, though, is a octopus with 2 distinct and active personalities. Both of them wants to build a different corps but to build one, the octopus needs to type a sequence of keyboard keys so the machine he designed can sew each body parts together. Having two personalities but only one body, entering the key sequence on a single keyboard is going to be a funny tentacle mess. Instructions: The screen displays a big keyboard. Each turn, the players will be given a key to press and hold by the octopus. If one key is missed, the sequence has to be restarted from the beginning. The winner is the first one who can complete and hold a sequence of 5 keys.
	Ying & Yang Team Members Programmers: Rui Di, Peng Zhang, Bo Qin, Yanbin Wang, Yayun Tian Artist: Zhen Zhang Windows PC http://gdgeek.com/sites/default/files/MagicBrick.zip *Yin & Yang* is called Magic Brick. It's a small easy game. The game rule is very simple. At first the statue in the middle will die and you must light four towers to make the statue relive. The only way to light the tower is that the colours of the tower and the brick under you are the same. And when you are on the blue or red brick, you can only go to the yellow one and when you on the yellow brick you can only go to the blue or red one. This idea is from Chinese culture Yin Yang. You can't go between Yin and Yang. You must first go to the normal( which is yellow brick in the game) and then go to the Yin or Yang you like. Also you can't go from normal to normal. and in the middle there is a special brick and you can go to any colour from that place. The operation is also simple. Press Key UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT for move and SPACE BAR for change the four brick's colour around you.
